Hi, I’m Kate Gudorf, a dietitian and nutrition scientist with 18 years’ experience, based in Sydney, Australia. I’m a proud wife and mother of two, an avid walker, podcast consumer and beach-lover. Lately, my spare time is spent watching my children play sport - which has been one of the most rewarding parts of my motherhood journey.

My training and experience has taken me into countless settings across two continents.  From one-on-one dietetic consults to designing and implementing large-scale public health initiatives, I’ve supported thousands of people over the years to improve their health. This is more than work, it’s my passion.

My journey into midlife

I’ve always taken pride in my ability to communicate. Words were my thing — quick, precise, reliable. Then in 2024, something weird happened: brain fog. Words were lost mid-sentence. It felt like someone scooped the vocabulary out of my head and stuffed that space with cotton. Simple names, obvious phrases — vanished!

Another change followed. I could no longer compartmentalise the way I used to. Work didn’t stop at 5 pm. It bled into family time and into the quiet moments when I once recharged. My stress tolerance dropped and I bounced back more slowly.

All of this chipped away at my confidence. I started to worry: Were my best professional years behind me? My friends felt it, too. We compared notes and agreed. Our biggest fear was that we were losing our edge — our clarity, our stamina, our professional spark.

Why I started Simply Midlife Dietitian

As someone who built a career translating science to build health programs based on systems and policy, I was surprised by the narrow focus around midlife health. Conversations seemed to centre on one thing: weight.

The collective picture of how the constellation of midlife concerns interact and why a systems-based approach can help wasn’t getting nearly enough airtime and no one was talking about what my friends and I feared most - losing our edge.

So I created the Midlife Systems Approach to help women understand the whole system and identify a range of options, rather than one symptom or one solution at a time. My aim is to support midlife women like you to make informed choices during this life phase and beyond!
